ETO CoC Exam – Eligibility, Assessment and Exam Pattern

About ETO CoC Exam Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) Certificate of Competency (CoC) examination is conducted by the Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping), Government of India. This exam certifies qualified marine electro-technical officers to serve on board merchant vessels as per STCW 2010 Requirements. ETO CoC Exam assesses a candidate’s theoretical knowledge and practical competence in electrical, electronic, and control engineering systems used on modern ships. It ensures that officers are capable of maintaining, troubleshooting, and operating critical shipboard electrical and automation systems safely and efficiently. It is conducted by the Mercantile Marine Department (MMD) under the supervision of the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), Government of India.Candidates must pass both written and oral examinations, along with completing all  modular courses at a DGS-approved maritime training institute. Once a candidate successfully clears all parts of the examination and fulfills the required sea service and training conditions, the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) issues the Certificate of Competency (CoC) – ETO CoC. ETO CoC Exam Eligibility Criteria To appear for the ETO CoC Examination, candidates must fulfill the following requirements : Must have completed 4-Month ETO Course from DGS approved MTI. Must complete Advanced Modular STCW Courses. Must have completed the necessary sea service experience as specified in the STCW 2010 amendments. (these will be used in Admit Card) Ensure you have Original Sea Services Letter issued by the Owner of the Vessel/RPSL. Ensure you have Copy of Article of Agreement (Only for Indian Flag Vessels) / Form 3A. Ensure you have valid Medical Fitness Certificate from DGS Approved Doctor. Ensure all Modular Courses as per Checklist are valid. After ensuring all above items ready, Proceed for Online Assessment Application on DGS Website.Step 1 : Open www.dgshipping.gov.in . Go to ‘e-governance’ section and Login with your Login credentials.Step 2 : Click ‘Examination’. → Click ‘Application for Eligibility Assessment‘.Step 3 : Select ‘MMD Applied To’. → Select Grade as ‘Electro Technical Officer‘  → Select Stream as ‘Completed sea service of 12 months as Electrical Officer / Electrician / trainee ETO / trainee Elec. Officer on or after 1st January 2015’ → Click Continue. Step 4 : Pay Assessment Fee. Download & Print Payment Receipt.Step 4 : Download and Print Form 15 Assessment Application from Examination section.Step 5 : Upload Documents : Click ‘Upload Documents for Assessment Application‘ in Examination section. After Online Assessment Application is complete, Proceed to respective MMD Centre for Physical verification of Documents , and Submit your Assessment File attaching documents in same sequence as per checklist. Download Assessment Checklist ETO CoC Exam Pattern ETO CoC Examination consists of one Written and one Oral Assessments. Candidates must successfully clear written and oral subjects to be eligible for the ETO Certificate of Competency, which is issued by the DG Shipping upon completion of all requirements. The exam pattern aligns with the STCW 2010 Convention, covering the following subjects : ETO CoC – Written Exam Pattern ETO CoC Exam Pattern – Written Written Exam Marine Electro- Technology & SSEP (Ship Safety & Environment Protection) Answer 6 questions out of 9 questions. (Section I , II & III each has 3 Questions. Need to answer 2 questions from each Section) Time : 3 Hrs. | Total Marks : 100 Passing Marks/Percentage : Out of 100 marks, a minimum of 50% marks is required for passing. Written examinations are conducted every month (except in May) at approved MMD centres across India. The schedule of written examinations is published one month in advance on the DG Shipping website. Seat Booking for Written Papers starts on 1st Day of Every Month and ends on 8th Day of the same month. ETO CoC – Oral Exam Pattern ETO CoC Exam Pattern – Oral Oral Exam Oral Exam – Electro Technical Officer (Operational Level) Candidates appear for the oral before MMD Examiners (Int & Ext Surveyors) Passing Marks/Percentage : Passing percentage is 60%. Oral examinations are conducted every month (except in May) at approved MMD centres/Online. The schedule of oral examinations is notified (3 – 7 days in advance) on registered email by respective MMD Centres. Seat Booking for Oral Functions starts on 1st Day of Every Month and ends on 8th Day of the same month.

MEO Class 1 – Eligibility, Assessment and Exam Pattern

About MEO Class 1 CoC Exam MEO Class 1 Certificate of Competency (CoC) is the highest level of marine engineering certification issued by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), Government of India. It qualifies marine engineers to serve as Chief Engineers on merchant vessels of any propulsion power, trading worldwide. MEO Class 1 CoC ensures that candidates possess the advanced technical, operational, and managerial skills required to take full responsibility for the engineering department on board. The certification is a recognition of professional competence and experience gained through years of sea service and training. MEO Class 1 examination is conducted by the Mercantile Marine Department (MMD) under the supervision of the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), Government of India.Candidates must pass both written and oral examinations, along with completing all  modular courses at a DGS-approved maritime training institute. About MEO Class 4 CoC Exam Marine Engineer Officer Class 4 (MEO Class 4) CoC is a professional competency certificate issued by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), India. It authorizes marine engineers to serve as Officers in Charge of an Engineering Watch in a manned engine room or Designated Duty Engineers in a periodically Unmanned Engine Room (Marine Engineer Officer Class IV). This certification ensures that candidates possess the necessary technical knowledge, practical skills, and shipboard experience to operate and maintain marine machinery safely and efficiently. MEO Class 4 examination is conducted by the Mercantile Marine Department (MMD) under the supervision of the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), Government of India.Candidates must pass both written and oral examinations, along with completing all  modular courses at a DGS-approved maritime training institute. Once a candidate successfully clears all parts of the examination and fulfills the required sea service and training conditions, the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) issues the Certificate of Competency (CoC) – MEO Class IV (Motor/Steam).
